Day 10
Well the job hunt was successful I guess. Successful in that I got a job, not so much in that the job sucks. At least I wont have to worry about working out or paying to go to a gym as I'm now getting paid to carry round boxes all day.
In terms of progress In other areas I really seem to have stalled.

Day 7
As week one draws to a close I know I could of done a lot better. I'm pretty pleased that I managed to keep up the exercise, well up to the weekend anyway, but I guess its ok to have weekends off for now. As for progress on any other goals I have continued listening to what seems like a fairly good learn french audio book and have also made worked a little on my own music. The guitarist from my band came over and we spent a couple of hours on some of my tunes. Although we didn't make any huge progress on any one song it did give me a much clearer idea of the thing as a whole.
I did do my one painting this week but did not write a poem. I have not started anything else really yet.
Tomorrow I will do something which I guess is more important than the rest of this. you may have guessed I don't have a job. Well in the morning I plan to go round town and give out a load of CVs. Something in retail or maybe a coffee shop will do for now.
Well not the worst week, but lets see if I can't do better this week.

Day Three
I really need to quit smoking. I didn't run in the end because I remembered how much running sucks. I think I need to build up to running. I did however do half an hours worth of Wii Fit minutes on the strength exercises and 1 Whole hour on the exercise bike! I think that's a damn good start. In that time I burnt 600 calories and traveled nearly 20 virtual kilometers. I also nearly died. Exercise really sucks, I really am not getting the 'love the burn' feeling more the 'I can barely walk' feeling.
Last night I made a pretty good start on my second ever portrait. I guess it was going ok, it was looked half good. This morning I got pissed off that it didn't really look much like the person I was trying to paint so I went a bit mad and painted over it with something else a bit different. I will post a picture of it maybe tomorrow.
I quite like it, but I should of really kept working at the portrait instead of giving up.

not so bad
Well I managed to turn the day around a bit I guess. I've started this weeks painting and listened to the first two CD's of the french course I'm using. The course seems pretty good so far, I'll go into a bit more depth once I've got a bit further through it. I really need to pick up the pace a bit. I think I will go jogging tomorrow morning.
Day 2
To say yesterday went less well then planned would be somewhat of an understatement. I did less than very little of anything at all productive. Today has so far been a similar affair although, being in an optimistic frame of mind, I will say the day if not over yet. I've been told that it takes 28 days to brake old habits or start new ones, this is all very well and good but means very little unless you start a first day. Having said that I have made my first sale of a painting. Yes it was to a friend But still even if he did feel compelled to buy it in order not to hurt my feelings it was still a sale none the less. I do see this as a pretty good achievement and it has, if nothing else, encouraged me to paint some more.
On another note I haven't yet talked much about smoking. As an adamant smoker I have done the required amount of self delusion and am mostly convinced that it is a choice I made. <delusion> I'm pretty sure that I'm not addicted and my failed attempts at quitting were not really that at all because I oviously chose to go back to smoking each time. Its nothing to do with me being weak I simply smoke because I like to be able to get away for a moment or two and clear my mind or indulge in quiet thought. Although I know smoking is lethal I am mostly desensitized to the warning on the packs and don't often think about the dangers of my habit. smoking kills, but it won't kill me </delusion>
But That's enough about all that I think I'm going to go mow the lawn. more importantly I'm going to start learning french at the same time.

Targets
I guess its time to get down to some specifics, but before that I should probably make a note or two. Having thought about the things that will be on this list is has to be said that its looking wildly optimistic. Not only because there are a lot of things on the list but also with a history of not sticking to things there is some doubt whether I will even complete any of these things let alone all of them. Having said that, setting realistic aims would be no fun at all. It should also be said that I don't at all see these things as easy to do and it may be far more sensible to choose just one, maybe two things to accomplish in a year but I don't really want to choose even if i thought I could. The result of this will probably be that I will continue to make little progress at a lot of things. partly for this reason some of the list is somewhat vague, but this hopefully will not undermine my efforts.
the first thing I will list may or may not be the most important depending on your point of view and that is that regardless of success or failure at the rest of the list I will keep this blog as a record of my progress.
1) Keep this blog updated regularly
2) Guitar: become 'good'
3) Piano: become 'good'
4) Bass: become 'good'
These sound hideously non specific, but I know what I mean and hopefully you do too.
4) math make a serious start at leaning advance math.
Again 'serious start' could be not very much, but I hope it wont be.
5) Fitness: 120 push ups, run 12 miles
This one I really didn't know what was a realistic goal for one year but it made sense to me to put some numbers on there.
6) Rubik's cube: solve in less than 3 mins
I don't really know why. I guess every time I see one I wish I could solve them.
7) Art: complete one piece per week.
One painting a week seems like a reasonable amount to stick to.
8) Music: write and record album.
I've given myself a year to do an album. I havn't decided if im going to get other people to help write/perfom it yet. I have a pretty good idea about whats going to go on it but at this point none has been written yet.
9) Poetry: 1 poem p/w.
Nothing here to say they have to be any good but this does mean writting one poem I am happy with each week.
10) Singing: Decide for once and all if its possible that everyone can sing and if so learn.
I know I can't sing but I've heard people say that anyone can sing to a certain level with some practice so im gonna give it a shot.
11) Philosophy.
12) Theology.
13) Physics.
Ok so these three are a bit different from the rest and possibly should not be on the list. people can spend their entire lives learning about just one of these things. My goal here is not to become an expert by any means but just to understand a little bit more about these subjects that interst me.
14) Meditation learn.
15) Tai Chi.
These are too things that I think would be hugely benificial to do on a regular basis.
16) Juggling: 50 catches with 5 balls
A challenge I set myself a while back and never quite got done.
17) Skateboard: learn flatland tricks.
I'm not quite sure if it was rodney mullen or tom green who made me want to learn to skateboard.
18) Language: learn French.
I wanted to try and learn a language and there was a few I wanted to try. French was chosen because I learnt (and forgot) a bit of it at school and because once i can speak some it wont be too hard to go visit.
19) Magic: Learn some tricks.
Because my friends know all the card tricks I can do!
So there it is 19 sometimes somewhat vague things. I'll go into a bit more detail as I start each item. Some of these goals may be deffinatly accomplished before the year is out, some may be reviewed at the end of the year to decide if I made it or not.
As for this blog and you, any advice, tips, good websites or pointers are more than welcome. what do you think of my choices? which do you think will be the most difficult to make progress in?
